The idea about Stina has been lingering for years. Although Stina is a fictional character, I see certain aspects of myself in her. I was bubbling with ideas -some that made sense and some that didn't. Most of my inspiration comes from my two daughters and from day dreaming.
I remember a girl saying to me that her parents would not allow her to play with me because I was weird. As much as it hurt to hear that as a little girl, today I am glad I did not conform to be someone I wasn’t. That is my goal for all the young readers of the Stina books: don’t conform just to fit in. Instead, be your authentic self!
As long as we are kind to one another, I think we should all embrace who we are.
Stina loves being herself. It is fun being her! Each day brings a new surprise. I hope you will enjoy reading the Stina books, just as much as I enjoy writing them.
